Making calls

Connect to an interpreter from your browser

Place an audio (OPI) interpreter call straight from your dashboard — no phone, no app, just your microphone.

Over-the-Phone Interpreting (OPI) connects you to a live audio interpreter right inside your browser. There’s nothing to install — you just need a working microphone.

1

Open the Phone (OPI) tab

On your dashboard

Sign in at app.dayinterpreting.com. On the dashboard, make sure the Phone (OPI) tab is selected (it is by default). You’ll see Available 24/7 in the corner — OPI interpreters are on call around the clock.

2

Pick your language

96 languages

Under Interpretation Language, tap a language chip. Your favorites show first, then the most popular languages, each with its per-minute rate. For anything else, click Other Languages and search the full list.

3

Choose Direct or 3-Way

Connect with Interpreter

Click Connect with Interpreter. A short panel appears:

  1. For a one-on-one call, choose Direct Call — just you and the interpreter.
  2. To bring in a colleague, client, or family member, switch on Add a 3rd party first, then start the call. See Add a third party to your call for the full guide.
4

Allow your microphone and connect

~30 seconds

When your browser asks, allow microphone access. We dial a qualified interpreter and connect you — usually in under 30 seconds. You’ll see Connecting… and then Connected to [interpreter] with a live timer and running cost.

If your browser blocks the mic, look for the camera/mic icon in the address bar and set it to Allow, then try again. The interpreter can’t hear you until the mic is on.
5

Talk, then hang up

You’re in control

Briefly tell the interpreter what you’d like to accomplish, then carry on your conversation. Tap Mute if you need to, and click End when you’re done. A summary shows your duration, cost, and the option to rate the call.

The first 30 seconds are free, and you’re never charged if no interpreter answers. After that, a 2-minute minimum applies, then per-minute billing.
  • Works in any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox) on desktop or mobile.
  • Prefer a phone? You can also dial in — see Call an interpreter by phone.
  • Your balance and remaining minutes are always visible during the call.
