Call recording & privacy

Day Interpreting does not record your interpreter calls — audio or video. Here's what we do, what we don't, and how to reach us if you have a compliance need.

Day Interpreting does not record your calls. Whether you connect over the phone, from your browser, or in a video (VRI) session, your conversation with the interpreter is not captured, stored, or transcribed by us.

1

What this means in practice

  1. No audio recording. Phone (OPI) and browser calls run live and are not saved.
  2. No video recording. Video (VRI) and ASL sessions run live and are not saved.
  3. No transcripts. We do not generate written transcripts of what was said during the call.
  4. No playback. There is no recording to download, replay, or share — from your portal or from anywhere else.
2

What we do keep

For billing & support

To run your account and answer support questions, we retain standard call metadata:

  1. Date and time of the call
  2. Language pair (e.g. English ↔ Spanish)
  3. Duration and cost
  4. The caller (member) and the account it belongs to
  5. Call type (OPI / VRI / ASL) and any third parties dialed in

You can review this metadata anytime in Portal → Call History. The content of the conversation is never part of that record.

3

Why we don't record

Privacy by design

Interpreted conversations frequently involve sensitive personal, medical, legal, and financial information. Recording those calls would introduce meaningful privacy, consent, and compliance obligations — including HIPAA for healthcare, GDPR for EU data subjects, and two-party-consent wiretap laws that vary by U.S. state and country.

Not recording is the default that keeps you and the people you serve safest. It also means neither Day Interpreting, nor our interpreters, nor any subprocessor holds a copy of the conversation.

4

If you need recording for a compliance use case

Some organizations are required to record and retain interpreted sessions (for example, certain legal proceedings, court-related work, or specific QA programs). If that describes you, please contact us before your first such call and we'll walk through what's possible, what consent disclosures are needed on your side, and how it would fit into your BAA or DPA where applicable.

Email compliance@daytranslations.com or open a ticket from Portal → Support.

If you or the other party to a call needs the conversation documented, the safest path is on your side — using your own recording tool with the appropriate consent notice given to everyone on the line. Day Interpreting itself does not record on your behalf by default.
  • Concerned about a specific past call? Contact support with the date and time — we can share the metadata we hold, but there is no audio or video to retrieve.
  • Signing a HIPAA BAA with us? See HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) — the BAA governs any Protected Health Information you share during an interpreted call.
