Making calls

Video interpreting (VRI)

Connect to an interpreter over live video — on demand, or pre-scheduled for less common languages.

Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) adds a live video feed so you and the interpreter can see each other — useful when visual cues, documents, or sign language matter. You’ll need a camera and microphone.

1

Open the Video (VRI) tab

On your dashboard

From your dashboard, select the Video (VRI) tab. Most common languages connect on demand, 24/7 — look for the Instant Connect badge.

2

Pick your language

Instant or scheduled

Tap a language under Interpretation Language. Languages marked Instant Connect are available right now. Some less common languages are pre-scheduled instead — those appear in the Pre-Scheduled VRI panel.

3

Start an on-demand video call

~30 seconds
  1. Click Video Call with [Language] Interpreter.
  2. Allow camera and microphone access when your browser asks.
  3. We connect a qualified interpreter and their video appears on screen. Use the on-screen controls to toggle your mic or camera, and end the call when you’re done.
If your camera or mic is blocked, click the camera/mic icon in your browser’s address bar and choose Allow. The call needs both to work.
4

Request a pre-scheduled session

Less common languages

For a pre-scheduled language, open the Pre-Scheduled VRI panel and choose the language. Fill in the request form — we confirm availability and schedule your session, then notify you.

Pre-scheduling lets us guarantee a qualified interpreter for languages that aren’t staffed around the clock. Request in advance and we handle the rest.
  • The first 30 seconds are free, with a 2-minute minimum after that — same as audio calls.
  • Your camera and mic stay private and secure; nothing is shared beyond your interpreter.
